This week, our blog centers around the most common pest issues you can expect when the warm summer temperatures turn into blustery fall days. You may think your pest concerns will disappear with the summer, but here are a few pests to look out for during the fall.
Rodents
The most common pests to keep an eye out for are mice and rats. They are like humans in that they also need warmth and food. They are also pretty small so they have the ability to crawl through tiny spaces. The concerns with invading rodents are that they can spread diseases, and many like to chew on things like wires which can cause fire hazards as well. Another cause for concern with these particular pests is that they often don’t invade alone. Rodents can also bring in pests like fleas, that can affect any pets you may have. And lastly, rodents can produce offspring rather quickly, so if you notice an unwelcome guest roaming in your home, call a professional to guarantee removal.
Stink Bugs
While stink bugs aren’t exactly a terrifying or invasive insect, they certainly make a big stink! When the weather turns colder outside, stink bugs like to come inside, too. Ants can enter the home through tiny cracks and holes in the outer walls of your house, just like roaches. Roaches can also hitch rides in boxes, bags, and clothes. Be sure to look out for these pests since they can transmit disease and cause damage to your home.
The best thing you can do to try and avoid these pests making your home their home is to keep your home as clean as possible. Use disinfectant-type cleaners to discourage unwelcome guests. Make sure to sweep and vacuum regularly to avoid leaving random pest snacks on the floor. Using airtight containers in your kitchen cabinet can also help to stop food spillage and unintentionally making any of these pests feel welcome in your home. Cleaning under and behind stoves and refrigerators can help tremendously, as sometimes food crumbs and spills tend to happen in these areas.
