What a winter it’s been so far. We’ve had snow, ice, sleet, and good old-fashioned cold here in Little Rock, and though the winter weather has served the important task of pushing many types of pests into hibernation it also presents a new set of pests control problems. If you have anything ranging from rodents in Little Rock to cockroaches in Conway to bed bugs in Hot Springs call Clark Exterminating and we’ll take care of your bug problem quickly and make sure they don’t come back.
Depending on your area, weather can cause problems when it comes to keeping rodents, ants, and other wildlife out of your home. Here are a couple of types of harsh weather and the problems they can cause:
Ice
We’ve already had bad ice once this season and it’s likely not the last time Central Arkansas will start to freeze over. When ice begins to form, make sure to look out for ice dams – spots generally on roofs or gutters where ice piles up and keeps the rest of the ice from melting. Because these dams can lead to standing water, the moisture can cause damage to your ceilings, walls, insulation, and drywall as well as creating gaps that allow pests such as rodents or moisture-loving carpenter ants to gain access.
Snow
Speaking of rodents, winter is by far the most likely time to have a rodent problem in your home. During the cold months around Little Rock, mice, rats or even squirrels are searching for a warm place to make their nest and hole up for the winter. When the snow begins to fall, this behavior becomes even more common. Since rodents can fit through very small spaces, it’s important to check for possible entry points into your home to protect against the structural damage that a rodent infestation can bring.
Wind
Over the past few weeks, we’ve felt some strong winds here in the Little Rock area, and excessive winds can cause significant problems as well when it comes to pest control. When high winds hit your home, they can do damage to your roof shingles, and unfortunately, cracks in your roof can be prime real estate for pests such as rodents, raccoons, and bats to gain entry to your home. Be sure to check your home from time to time to make sure there are no cracks or possible entry points in your roof.
Rain
Both melting snow and rain can cause similar problems, and leaks or moist areas can quickly attract termites or carpenter ants. Unfortunately, many of these species can go unnoticed well into the spring and summer, so it’s best to keep them out in the first place by ensuring there are no moist areas left unattended. Periodically check your attic for moisture and keep that area as dry as possible.
Sometimes pests just want in your home and despite your best efforts, they find a way. If you have a pest problem, don’t try to tackle it yourself. Many DIY pest control techniques
include harsh chemicals that can at best be ineffective and at worst be dangerous to you or your family. If you live around the Little Rock area, Call Clark Exterminating today and give yourself the peace of mind that comes with having a pest-free home.
