Stay Bed Bug Free this Summer Vacation | AR Pest Control

Bed Bug Free

Bed bugs are no joke for Arkansas homeowners, and once you have an infestation it can be incredibly difficult and stressful to effectively remove these nasty pests. If you have a bed bug problem in Little Rock, need bed bug treatments in Jacksonville, or need any kind of pest control in Cabot or across Central Arkansas, call our team at Clark Exterminating today! If you don’t have a bed bug problem, the best way to avoid one is to stay alert.

Summer is almost here, and that means it’s travel season for many Arkansans. With the kids almost out of school, you may be already planning your summer trips, but be on high alert for bed bugs – especially since most hotel rooms will be seeing more traffic than usual.

As we mentioned in a previous blog, a study by the National Pest Management Association showed that 75% of pest control professionals had seen bed bug infestations within the past year. You can bet that the number of infestations will only go up during the summer, so here are a few tips for staying bed bug-free during the warmer seasons:

First Things First
As soon as you check in to a hotel, you may want to inspect the room for any signs of bed bugs, including pepper-like stains on mattresses or the bugs themselves. If you take the few first minutes to inspect the room before unpacking, you could save yourself from an infestation before you are even at risk. If you see any evidence of bed bugs, notify the management immediately and request another room, but make sure it is not near the infested room either horizontally or vertically.

When you get home
So you had a great vacation and made it home with no evidence of bed bugs? Congratulations! However, you may not be safe yet. Bed bugs are notorious hitchhikers, and they can stay on clothing for many days. Before moving all your suitcases directly into your home, you might want to leave them in the garage, inspect them, and even wash all clothing (even clothing you did not wear) in hot water before putting it back in your closet. Finally, inspect your suitcases thoroughly before bringing them back into the house.

These steps may seem tedious, but it’s much easier to keep bed bugs out of your home than try to get them out once they settle in.
